Humorous original World War II poster depicting an elephant in 1940s clothing standing at the front of a queue, accompanied by the words: "Elephants are out of place in a rush-hour queue. SO ARE SHOPPERS!"

Issued in support of the Ministry of War Transport's Road Safety campaign, this original 1940s poster features a lovely color illustration by cartoonist Cyril Kenneth Bird, better known as Fougasse. The British government encouraged people not to travel at rush hour in order to make sure there was sufficient public transportation for war workers. This poster was created by the Tilling Group, a transit company that supplied busses to public transit systems in Britain. Deaccessioned from the Valentine Museum, Richmond, Virginia.
