Dinesen was born in Denmark but wrote both in English and Danish, and her books usually appeared simultaneously in both languages. She "married her cousin, Baron Bror von Blixen-Finecke, in 1914. They ran a co#ee plantation in Kenya, which she continued to manage after her divorce; the story of this failed enterprise is told in Out of Africa… written after her return to Denmark in 1931" (Drabble, 109).
