A beautifully bound 17th century Bible in full contemporary morocco with onlays of red and gold and gilt tooling with flower and leaf motifs. Bible: Darlow & Moule 590. Wing B2308A. BCP: Wing B3654A. With numerous inscriptions, including that of the original owner, Elizabeth Whiting, who writes: "I could see to read in this Bible at 60 yeares thanks bee to God June 21th 1702 wth out specticalls" and beneath this: "I could see to read in this Bible at 70 years of age wth out specticalls praised bee God Decembr. 21th 1712."
Occasional tears with minimal loss of text, rear free endpaper torn and largely missing. Joints and extremities expertly restored, some rubbing and wear. An excellent example of a beautiful Restoration binding.
