First edition of this program for an exhibit of works by Chagall, with full color front cover and nine black-and-white reproductions, signed by him on the title page.
Held at the Musée Masséna in Nice in 1962, the exhibition was of posters done showcasing the Côte d'Azur done by Chagall in the early 1960s. "Bay of Angels," the full-color cover image of this program, is a particularly lovely and well-known work by Chagall. From the collection of Joseph Liverant, a fellow Russian Jewish emigré and close friend of Chagall. Liverant and Chagall both fled Europe in World War II, Liverant to Canada and Chagall to the United States. After the war, both acquired residences in Provence, where shared social circles, similar ages, and a mutual love of Yiddish combined to forge a lasting bond of friendship between the two.
