Part of Volland’s “Happy Children Books” series-to which Johnny Gruelle’s Raggedy Ann and Andy books also belonged-Mitchel’s toy fantasy chronicles the adventures of a doll made from flowers and a soldier fashioned from an ear of corn. Guatemalan-born Sarg is remembered for not only illustrating children’s books but also reviving marionette theater in America. He also developed helium-filled character balloons for Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parades. Cotsen 7362.
