"The conclusions of the reports were of overwhelming unanimity that there is an alarming trend to control the cultural life of the American people in accordance with reactionary conceptions of our national interest. We felt it our obligation to record this evidence in printed form and to make it available to all those who regard freedom of thought as our primary right as Americans and as human beings" (Introduction). Participants included Donald Ogden Stewart, Albert Maltz, George Sklar, Dorothy Hughes, and many other progressives in the Hollywood community. Simultaneously issued as a series of six staple-bound pamphlets.
