The Mets' victory over the Red Sox in game 7 of the 1986 World Series followed the momentous game 6—still considered one of the greatest games in baseball history—in which the Mets, trailing by one and with one out left in the tenth inning, snatched victory from the jaws of defeat on an error by Bill Buckner on a ground ball hit from Mookie Wilson, forcing game 7. The Mets went on to decisively win the final game 8-5.
