LOVELY ILLUMINATED INITIAL "A" FROM A FRENCH MISSAL, CIRCA 1475-1500
(ILLUMINATED LEAF). Illuminated Initial. France, circa 1500. Single vellum leaf (3-3/4 by 2-1/2 inches), illuminated in pink, blue, green, white, black, and gold inks inks; handsomely matted and framed, entire piece measures 12-1/2 by 11-1/4 inches.
Lovely illuminated initial from a French missal, circa 1475-1500, scribed as a pink, blue, and white floriated "A" on a floriated gilt and blue ground with a left border of gilt buds and acanthus leaves.
This illuminated leaf is from a French illuminated missal, circa 1475-1500. The recto includes a very large letter "A" in blue, pink, and white filigree on a gilt ground decorated with pink flowers, blue vines, and green leaves. There is also a border along the left edge featuring blue acanthus leaves and gilt buds on a black-speckled background.
