Early printing, a distinctive presentation copy inscribed on the title page by General Bradley, "With regards, Omar N. Bradley." Additionally inscribed and/or signed by seven veterans, including: Lieutenant Larry O'Toole, Patrick Little, Max Schwartz, Stanley Simon, H.C. Beehler and T.R. Barkley (seventh signature illegible); additionally presented by Lieutenant O'Toole to Lieutenant Colonel D. Henston of the First Infantry Battalion.
A Soldier's Story recounts the battles of World War II from a soldier's perspective. Bradley led more combat troops than any other field commander in history. With 55 maps and 17 black-and-white illustrations, including photographs. Early printing, without "First Edition" stated on copyright page. Twice inscribed on the dedication page, firstly "To Lawrence O'Toole who I am sure will [ensure?] this is passed on 'with best regards,' Patrick Little"; secondly, by the first recipient to a fellow officer, "With regards to Lieut. Colonel D. Henston, 1st Infantry Battalion, from Ex Lieut. Larry O'Toole."
