The letter reads in full: "Dear Sir, In reply to yours of the 4th I have to say that my next volume will probably be a collection of literary essays and will be called `In-door Studies.' It will contain essays on Thoreau, Matthew Arnold, Literature & Science, Science & Religion, Gilbert White & c. It will not be ready for publication until sometime next year. I have no plans for the coming winter, save to sit here & put upon paper such thoughts as come to me. Very Sincerely Yours, John Burroughs. Edward W. Bok Esq. New York."
