"BON APPETIT!": FROM JULIA CHILD'S KITCHEN, SIGNED BY JULIA AND PAUL CHILD
CHILD, Julia. From Julia Child's Kitchen. New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1975. Octavo, original pictorial cloth, original dust jacket. $1300.
First trade edition of Child's fourth cookbook, signed on the front free endpaper by Julia Child (with her characteristic "Bon appétit!") and her husband Paul.
Child was the girl from Pasadena who revolutionized American cooking with her irrepressible humor, genial expertise, and her signature phrase, "Bon Appétit!" Winner of three Emmys, the Peabody Award, the National Book Award, and the French Légion d'Honneur, she was the first woman ever inducted into the Culinary Institute of America's Hall of Fame and her kitchen has been installed in the Smithsonian. A "self-confessed ham, she became a darling of audiences… almost from the moment she made her debut in 1963 at the age of 50" (New York Times). Paul Child, Julia's husband, provided the photographs and drawings that illustrate the book. Preceded by a signed limited edition of 1500 copies. With "First Edition" on copyright page; dust jacket with "10/75" on lower corner of rear flap.
Book with a few small spots to fore-edge, a touch of rubbing to spine ends, near-fine; dust jacket with mild toning to edges, closed tears, small chips to rear panel top, very good.
