SIGNED BY LARRY CLARK
CLARK, Larry. Larry Clark. (Groningen: Goninger Museum, 1999). Slim folio, original embossed black pebbled cloth, mounted rear cover illustration. $450.
Museum catalogue of Clark’s 1999 Dutch exhibition of 197 candid head-shots, boldly signed on the title page (which is a reproduction of one of his Photo Service receipts).
“Clark set out in his photographs to try to tell the truth about the world and about himself” (Roth, 208). This collection of 197 color halftone plates of teen portraits is “clearly informed by his intimacy with this community” (Parr & Badger, 260). By “pixelating” his images—almost replicating the linear distortion of a surveillance camera—Clark has innovatively collapsed the distance of an “objective observer” and creates a voyeuristic intimacy with his subjects. See Roth, 208-09.
Fine condition, signed.
