ONE OF ONLY 400 COPIES SIGNED BY FAULKNER
FAULKNER, William. Idyll in the Desert. New York: Random House, 1931. Octavo, original marbled red paper boards, printed paper label, uncut, original glassine. Housed in a custom clamshell box. $4500.
Signed limited first edition of Faulkner’s haunting tale of love and loss, one of only 400 copies signed by him, in scarce original glassine.
"Idyll in the Desert shows Faulkner's mastery of oral storytelling techniques and gives one version of his theme of endurance and love lasting beyond death" (Skei, 15). Foreshadowing The Wild Palms and mirroring Faulkner's life at the time, Idyll tells the story of a woman who abandons her husband and two children for a younger man. This was Faulkner's first book under the Random House imprint. This signed limited edition was limited to 400 copies; this is an "out of series" copy. Brodsky 121. Bruccoli & Clark, 122. See Petersen A10.1.
Only slight wear to glassine, book fine. A lovely signed copy.
