Visit to Morin

"SO YOU HAVE READ SOME OF MY BOOKS?"

GREENE, Graham. A Visit to Morin. London, Melbourne, Toronto: Heinemann, (1959). Slim octavo, original green cloth, original dust jacket. $1850.

First edition of Greene's powerful story about faith, one of only 250 copies printed, this copy inscribed on the limitation page by Greene, "This copy has been signed in the cause for Berkhamsted Town Hall. Graham Greene."

"A Visit to Morin tells of a young man's shock at the confessions of a once-famous Catholic writer—confessions that include the loss of religious beliefs, though the writer subtly differentiates 'belief' from something called 'faith' which he claims he still has" (New York Times). A Visit to Morin was first published in the London Magazine and was later included in Greene's 1963 short story collection, Under the Garden. Miller 39a. The restoration of Berkhamsted Town Hall, mentioned in Greene's inscription, was an activity close to his heart and one which he actively campaigned for. Greene was born and grew up in Berkhamsted, where his father was housemaster at the Berhkhamsted School.
