Sixth Column

HEINLEIN’S FIRST PUBLISHED NOVEL

HEINLEIN, Robert. Sixth Column. New York: Gnome Press, (1949). Octavo, original black cloth, original dust jacket. $1100.

First edition of this controversial early Heinlein novel—his first published novel when it appeared as a serial in 1941—only his fifth novel to appear in book form. A lovely copy.

Heinlein's first published novel, notable for its frank and controversial portrayal of racism, first appeared as a serial in Astounding Science Fiction from January-March, 1941, credited to "Anson MacDonald." In book form, this is Heinlein's fifth novel, and was reissued in 1951 as The Day after Tomorrow. First edition stated on copyright page. Currey, 193. Bookplate.

Book with one tiny rub to front panel, dust jacket with mild rubbing to spine and folds, mild foxing to rear panel, one small tape repair to verso. An excellent copy.
