Volker Heinze has managed to capture William Eggleston in one of his docile moments— catching a cat-nap at a restaurant, and Robert Frank in one of his more violent moments— armed with the intent to squirt. William Eggleston’s Guide (1976) is one of the “milestones in the history of color photography” (Roth, 234). Robert Frank’s Les Amèricains (1958) drew praise from Jack Kerouac, who dubbed Frank “one of the tragic poets of the world.”
