Wonderful illuminated leaf from a French Book of Hours, with the text from the opening of the Compline and a large miniature of the Coronation of the Virgin.
In this image, Mary and God sit facing each other, with God placing a crown on Mary's head, in a paneled room; above, a host of blue seraphim bear witness from above. The image is placed in an arched frame, with a geometrically divided border of individual panels filled with flowers, leaves, fruits and acanthus leaves. Beneath the image are three lines of text from the opening of the Compline prayer ("Converte nos, Deus, salutaris noster") with a three-line and a one-line illuminated initial. The styling of this image is in the tradition of painter and miniaturist Jean Fouquet.
In excellent condition.
