First edition of this pioneering archaeological work, with photographic illustrations of Anglo-Saxon antiquities, handsomely bound in a calf-gilt prize binding from Rochester, England.

Leeds’ work laid the foundations for the modern study of Anglo-Saxon antiquities and established their importance for a proper understanding of the early history of Britain. He joined the staff of the Ashmolean Museum in 1908, and ultimately succeeded Hogarth as Keeper of the Museum in 1928. (He is also known for his extensive correspondence with T.E. Lawrence.). Prize bookplate for “Archeological Essay” dated 1914.
