Upon the death of Lincoln, Whitman delayed the printing of Drum-Taps and added "When Lilacs Last in the Dooryard Bloom'd," a "profoundly moving dirge for the martyred Lincoln" (CHAL), with separate pagination, table of contents, and title page.
