FOUR NURSERY RHYME POP-UPS BY GERALDINE CLYNE
CLYNE, Geraldine. Baa, Baa, Black Sheep. WITH: Ding, Dong, Bell! WITH: Mistress Mary. WITH: Sing a Song of Sixpence. New York: J.S. Pub. Co., [1953]. Four volumes. Square octavo, one sheet measuring 8-1/2 by 15-1/2 inches folded in half, printed in color on both sides with interior pop-up scene. $400.
Four (of eight) original, individual, fanfolded pop-ups from Clyne’s “Mother Goose Playhouse” series.
Best known for her “Jolly Jump-Up” series, Clyne also designed these charming single-sheet, fanfolded pop-up scenes. They originally fit inside a “Mother Goose Playhouse” stage (not present) to display timeless nursery rhymes. See Montanaro, 183.
Pop-ups bright and clean, intact and functional save for one small closed tear to the interior of “Baa, Baa, Black Sheep.” Slight splitting to ends of perforated “spines,” slightest rubbing to boards. Four lovely near-fine copies. Scarce.
