ELEGANT PHOTOGRAPHIC PORTRAIT INSCRIBED BY ELEANOR ROOSEVELT
ROOSEVELT, Eleanor. Photograph inscribed. Washington, D.C., circa 1941. Vintage gelatin silver print (8 by 10 inches), inscribed on print recto. $2600.
Vintage gelatin silver print of Eleanor Roosevelt, circa 1941, an official White House photographic portrait by Bachrach that features the First Lady in a black evening gown, seated before a desk that displays a framed photograph of FDR, inscribed by her in the upper right of print recto, "To E— with affectionate good wishes, Eleanor Roosevelt," with Bachrach studio imprint and date of 1941 on lower right of print recto.
This is a stately full-length photographic portrait of Eleanor Roosevelt that shows the First Lady seated in a black evening gown beneath the portrait of President James Monroe and before a desk displaying a photograph of FDR. The gentle silvering of the print in the lower left corner, typical of early gelatin silver prints, confirms the photograph was printed very near the date Roosevelt posed for this portrait.
A fine inscribed photograph.
