ORIGINAL ELEANOR ROOSEVELT NOTE, 1954

ROOSEVELT, Eleanor. Typed note signed. Hyde Park, New York, November 16, 1954. One sheet measuring 6 by 7 inches, typing on recto only; handsomely framed with contemporary News Service Photo of Roosevelt, entire piece measures 17-1/2 by 13-1/2 inches. Original free-franked envelope and News Service caption in pocket affixed to back of frame.

Original typed thank-you note, signed by Mrs. Roosevelt, handsomely framed with contemporary photograph.

Written on Roosevelt’s personal stationery, the note reads: “Dear Rabbi Freedman: Thank you so much for your thought of me. I am much interested and delighted to have these songs and shall pass them on to others who may be interested. With my good wishes and many thanks, Very sincerely yours, [signed] Eleanor Roosevelt.” The accompanying photograph was taken at a New York luncheon of the planning committee of the Japan International Christian University Foundation, which Roosevelt sponsored and upon this occasion addressed. Original envelope bears Roosevelt’s free franking signature stamp.

A fine framed piece.
