PRESENTATION COPY OF YOU'RE NOT ELECTED, CHARLIE BROWN, INSCRIBED BY CHARLES SCHULZ
SCHULZ, Charles M. You're Not Elected, Charlie Brown. New York: Scholastic Book Services, (1975). Slim octavo, original pictorial paper wrappers.
First Scholastic edition, third printing, presentation copy, of Schulz's humorous take on a school election starring the Peanuts gang, based on the primetime animated TV special, boldly inscribed on the half title: "For Mary with best wishes—Charles M. Schulz."
You're Not Elected, Charlie Brown was originally conceived as the eighth Peanuts primetime TV special, aired in 1972 in the lead-up to the Nixon-McGovern election. Schulz's gentle satirization of political maneuvering was meant to be the perfect antidote for a bitter campaign marred by shocking scandals and the withdrawal of vice presidential running mate. A companion book was published the next year. The first edition was published in hardcover by World Publishing in 1973. A softcover Scholastic edition was published the same year; this is the third printing published two years later.
Signature bold, interior quite nice, only light rubbing to boards. A near-fine inscribed copy.
