The 1963 winner of the National Jewish Book Award. The fourth of Singer’s novels to appear in English, The Slave recounts the struggles of a young Jewish scholar captured and enslaved in 17th-century Poland. Elizabeth Shub, the recipient of this copy, was an author, editor, translator, and long-time friend to Singer, collaborating on Zlateh the Goat and many other works.
Inner hinge expertly repaired, some toning to binding of near-fine book, light chipping to very good dust jacket. A wonderful presentation copy.
