“THE TIDAL EBB AND FLOW OF MASS PSYCHOLOGY… CANNOT BE SAFELY DISREGARDED”
SMITH, Edgar Lawrence. Tides in the Affairs of Men. New York: Macmillan, 1939. Octavo, original blue cloth, original dust jacket. $800.
First edition, illustrated with numerous charts and tables.
In 1924, Smith published the popular and influential Common Stocks as Long Term Investments, a volume "slim and and initially unheralded, but destined to move markets as never before" (Warren Buffet). In this, his third book, Smith argues that "within the economic pattern of a period, the tidal ebb and flow of mass psychology in response to the rhythms of environmental change cannot be safely disregarded… Man is, apparently, not so greatly dissociated as he had supposed, from the source of all that enables him to live." Tiny marginal ink stamp.
Book fine, dust jacket very good with light edge-wear and rubbing to folds.
