IMPRESSIONS, COMMENTS AND HINTS ON GOLF BY ONE OF ENGLAND’S GREATEST GOLFERS

TAYLOR, John H. Taylor on Golf: Impressions, Comments and Hints. London: Hutchinson & Co., 1902. Octavo, original green gilt-decorated cloth. $1000.

First edition of this autobiographical account of the state of the game, illustrated with 48 stop-action photographic plates.

John Taylor won five British Opens from 1894-1913, joining Harry Vardon and James Braid as part of the "Great Triumvirate." Though he was not as graceful as Vardon nor as powerful as Braid, he was considered the best putter of the three. Taylor holds the British Open record for top-ten finishes with 23, including 17 in a row. Donovan & Murdoch 36430.

Only a bit of foxing, inner hinges expertly reinforced; cloth lovely with gilt bright, only minor wear along spine ends. A near-fine copy.
