SIGNED BY 15 GIANTS, TEN ON THE 1986-87 SUPER BOWL XXI-WINNING TEAM
WHITTINGHAM, Richard. The Giants. An Illustrated History… From the Polo Grounds to Super Bowl XXI. New York: Harper & Row, (1987). Quarto, original blue boards, original dust jacket. $950.
First edition of this richly illustrated history of the New York Giants, from their first days at the Polo Grounds through their dramatic win in Super Bowl XXI, signed by 15 players—10 of whom played on that championship team.
After a 14-2 regular season record, the Giants advanced to their first Super Bowl in team history, where they defeated the Denver Broncos by a score of 39-20. The Giants were led by quarterback Phil Simms and running back Joe Morris (who has signed this volume), who finished the regular season with a then-franchise record 1516 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns, while also catching 21 passes for 223 yards and another touchdown. More important, perhaps, was their stellar, stingy defense. This volume has been signed by: Harry Carson, Leonard Marshall, Rodney Hampton, Bart Oates, Sean Landeta, Eric Dorsey, Odessa Turner, Bjorn Nittmo, Lewis Tillman, Jeff Rutledge, Stacy Robinson, Carl Banks, Joe Morris, William Roberts, and Dick Nolan. (Hampton, Nittmo, Tillman and Turner joined the Giants after the Super Bowl-winning season; Nolan played for the Giants 1954-57 and then again 1959-61.
A fine multiply signed copy.
