"NO BOAT. NO MONEY. NO DOCTAH. NOTHIN T EAT"

(WILSON, John) WRIGHT, Richard. Down by the Riverside. New York: Limited Editions Club, (2001). Oblong folio (16 by 12 inches), original blue cloth; housed in original clamshell box. $1950.

Signed limited first edition, number 24 of only 300 copies signed on the limitation page by artist John Wilson, with four striking aquatint illustrations by him.

Wright's harrowing novella was first published in the collection Uncle Tom's Children in 1938, two years before Native Son appeared. Artist John Wilson created art "since he was a boy on Roxbury's streets, learning to sketch and honing a burgeoning talent that eventually would place his paintings and sculptures in the Museum of Fine Arts and far beyond" (Bryan Marquand, in the Boston Globe). His work has displayed a consistent focus on social injustice and racial inequality in America.

Fine condition.
