Aesop's Fables for Modern Readers
Aesop's Fables for Modern Readers

ILLUSTRATED AND SIGNED BY ERIC CARLE

CARLE, Eric, illlustrator. Aesop's Fables for Modern Readers. Mount Vernon, New York: Peter Pauper Press, (1965). Tall thin 12mo, original illustrated boards, original dust jacket. $450.

First edition of Aesop's Fables to be illustrated by Eric Carle, signed by him on the title page.

Published shortly before he became famous from his children's books Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? and The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Aesop's Fables is the first work in which Carle used his distinctive collage technique for illustration. A few ink notations to text.

Book with a bit of rubbing to rear panel; dust jacket with mild edge-wear, toning to spine. An extremely good copy.
