INSCRIBED FROM CARL SAGAN TO ACTOR PAUL NEWMAN
SAGAN, Carl. Cosmos. New York: Random House, (1980). Quarto, original black cloth, original dust jacket. $4200.
First edition, later issue, inscribed on the title page, "For Paul Newman, With every good wish. Carl Sagan."
The profusely illustrated companion volume to the documentary series COSMOS, for many years the most widely viewed program ever produced by PBS (it was later surpassed by Ken Burns' The Civil War). The actor Paul Newman served for many years on the advisory board of the Planetary Society, founded in 1980 by Carl Sagan—and led by him until his death in 1996—to promote projects related to astronomy and space exploration.
Cloth with minor soiling, bright dust jacket with three closed tears. A near-fine copy with a wonderful association.
