CHIMOT, Édouard. “Nu Feminin.” Original signed color aquatint. Paris, circa 1925. Original large aquatint image (13 by 17-1/2 inches), sheet measures 20-1/2 by 26 inches. $1800.
Impression number 21 of only 200 copies of this beautiful full-length color aquatint of a female nude, signed by Chimot both in the plate and on the print.
Influenced by Lautrec, Renoir, Rodin and later the Symbolists, Édouard Chimot taught himself painting and directed his talent primarily to etching, often for fine private-press limited editions. Best known for his voluptuous erotic images, he has been called “the painter of feminine sensuality” (Slatkine, Livres Illustrés 1900-1930). Chimot reached his artistic height during the 1920s and early 30s. He had become a significant figure in the Paris art world, with a public “hungry for his late-Symbolist nudes, ‘soumises à leurs passions mortelles et délicieuses” (André Warnod).
Fine condition, with only a few minor white spots to margin (not affecting image).
