Eminent photographer and historian Jean-Claude Gautrand here assembles many of the finest images of Paris, representing the city from the earliest days of photography in the 1840s through to the late 20th century. The result of over five years research in international museums, archives, galleries and private collections, this definitive work features the photographs of Cartier-Bresson, Kertész, Ronis, Doisneau, Izis, Stieglitz, Talbot, Brassaï, Boubat, Daguerre, Atget, author/photographer Gautrand, and recipient Peter Turnley. Text in French. First trade edition published same year as a numbered/limited edition of 100 copies, no priority established. A rare association copy, inscribed in the year of publication to award-winning Paris-based photojournalist Peter Turnley, who has covered “almost every important international news event of the last 15 years” for Newsweek and Harper’s Magazine (New York Times). With laid-in printed publisher’s card, inscribed to Turnley by Jean-Luc Monterosso, co-publisher and director of “Espace photographique” in Paris. Owner signature.

Book fine; some edge-wear to bright original dust jacket. An especially handsome association copy, near-fine.
