Document appointing Andrew Jensen as Captain in the First Montana Volunteer Infantry, which served in the Spanish-American War, signed by Montana Governor Robert B. Smith and Montana’s secretary of state and adjutant general.
Jensen, a merchant from St. Paul, Minnesota, served as Captain for Company E, which was sent to California in May 1898 for training; the company served on the front line in the Phillipines from February through August of 1899. He was wounded in the left forearm on April 27, 1899, near Apalit, in the Phillipines; his injury resulted in partial paralysis of his left hand. Also included are copies from the National Archives of Jensen’s muster-in roll from his service and documents related to his medical leave and treatment.
