WITH 80 BEAUTIFUL COLOR HALFTONES OF STEPHENSON WATERCOLORS
STEPHENSON, Russell M. Eighty Sketches in Water Colour from Nature. London: St. Catherine Press, 1926. Thick folio, original full red morocco gilt, top edge gilt, uncut, original slipcase. $900.
Limited edition of watercolor sketches by Russell Stephenson, number 55 of only 220 copies, with 80 finely screened mounted color halftones.
Stephenson produced this sumptuous limited edition of his watercolors as a fund-raising enterprise for the Princess Louise Hospital for Children in North Kensington. Princess Louise, Duchess of Argyll, “the wittiest, best-dressed, and most attractive of Victoria’s daughters” (Hunterian Museum), became patron to the Kensington Dispensary and Children’s Hospital, fittingly renamed the Princess Louise Hospital for Children.
A beautiful production in fine condition.
