GIBSON, Wilfrid Wilson. The Golden Helm and Other Verse. London: Elkin Mathews, 1903. Octavo, publisher’s blue cloth, uncut. $600.
First edition, inscribed by the author on front flyleaf, “To John Drinkwater from Wilfrid Gibson.”
W.W. Gibson was described by D.H. Lawrence as, “one of the clearest and most lovable personalities I know,” and was known as a spokesman for the common man. He was a contemporary of and collaborator with the war poet Rupert Brooke and was admired by Robert Frost and Sir Edward Marsh (DNB). Without scarce original dust jacket. This copy inscribed to the playwright John Drinkwater, known for his historical plays.
Very slight sunning to the spine. An interesting association copy, in near-fine condition.
